Significance to Theran life
The artefacts discovered at Akrotiri, as stated before, give us a deep knowledge of what life was like at the time. Most of the cycladic age pottery discovered there give us much more insight as opposed to any other object. Firstly, the pottery discovered at the site can tell us just how advanced the society is through the construction of the vessel, as well as the materials used to construct it.
Artwork painted onto the artefacts tells us even more, as it directly depicts aspects of Minoan life, similarly to the Frescoes discovered in the same place. The artwork on artefacts however tends to be artistic depictions of animals, such as n ibex, a bird and dolphins.
The way the artefacts are designed also gives us insight, as they tell us how they would have been used, giving us information on aspects on Minoan life. For example, what appears to be a fish hook was uncovered in Akrotiri, this tells us that the people of Akrotiri fished, this is further proved by the fact that Akrotiri is close to the water, because of the island's geography, being a small island, most of the settlements would be close to the water.
The materials used to construct the artefacts also shows us how advanced the society is, most of the artefacts discovered there are of stone and ceramic materials, however there are some artefacts constructed from Bronze, thus indicating that they were a Bronze age society. However a Gold artefact was discovered in akrotiri, something that also indicates that the people of Thera were perhaps more advanced than once initially thought.
